congressman Joseph Williams, a spokesman for Avanza País, believes that President Pedro Castillo is indeed hindering the prosecution’s investigation against him. An example of this for the parliamentarian is the changes in the National Police.

“What happens is that there is a conflict of interest. It is clear that the president is obstructing justice, and he is doing so not only for the sake of consequences or against the TNG, but also because of what Attorney Barreto said yesterday about a number of obstacles. with the budget, flying drones, etc. This shows that the president, or those with him, are somehow obstructing justice from the point of view of the prosecutor’s office, ”said the parliamentarian in Las Cosas. How are they?” on RPP.

Secondly, Joseph Williams said that the explanations of the Minister of the Interior, Willy Huerta, the changes in the PPP were not convincing in Parliament. He criticized the firing of the generals for allegedly not meeting civilian security goals.

“It doesn’t make sense. Obviously, there is no consistency in this. Who can solve a serious problem in three months? Then, in addition to the commanding general, other people can be fired, including the minister himself,” Williams said.

In addition, he did not rule out that Minister Huerta could be condemned by Congress after he did not convince the Defense Commission with his explanations.

For the parliamentarian, these PNP relays are more related to the investigation conducted by Colonel Harvey Colchado, prosecutor Marita Barreto and her entire team against the president’s entourage.

Home Secretary Justifies Police Changes

Interior Minister Willy Huerta appeared this Monday before the Congressional Defense Commission over changes made to the high command of Peru’s national police, including the departure and resignation of Luis Vera Llerena as commander-in-chief of the PPP.

Huerta justified the changes and emphasized that promotion in the Police and Armed Forces (FF.AA.) is the constitutional power of President Pedro Castillo.

In this sense, the head of the ministry confirmed that the removal of Vera Llerena, who was replaced by Raul Alfaro, occurred because during the three months of his tenure as general commander of the PPP, “he did not fulfill” the tasks of ensuring the safety of citizens, including reducing crime.

Huerta avoided talking before the commission about the possible sanction of Colonel Harvey Colchado and pointed out that the case related to the General Inspectorate of Police.

“It is not for me to comment on this, because this situation is under the jurisdiction of the General Inspectorate of Police, which is an autonomous body that is not accountable for its activities and functions,” he replied.
