Former President of the National Society of Industry (SNI) Ricardo Marquez today expressed his intention to presidential candidate in the next elections, which, in accordance with the law and unless Pedro Castillo is released or disqualified, will take place in 2026.
In an interview with “News Expansion”, Marquez He said he was supported by his family and a group of friends, including former interior minister Mariano Gonzalez and former CONFIEP president Roque Benavidez, in establishing a political party called the Democratic Alliance.
“I even got a stomach ache because I made a decision, because it’s not easy. I have always believed that whoever goes into politics does it to serve,” he said when asked if he would dare to be presidential candidate.
“I want Peru to see that there are people who can run the country, honest and capable people on a global level,” he added.
In this sense, Ricardo Marquezwho was vice president in the government of Alberto Fujimori, said that by nominating himself he wants to encourage more honest professionals to run in the next election.
“To talk to [mis hijos] and my wife, and they said to me: “Come in, because you should already do it.” My son said to me, “Daddy, if you go, there will be people like you who want to, and there will be professional people in Peru who want to enter.” I tell him that I am ready to compete,” he added.
Thus, the former president of SIN said that if he gets to the Government Palace, he will focus on applying the “social market economy” in Peru, copying the German model. In addition, he vowed to distance himself from family and friends to avoid suspicion of alleged perks in government acquisitions.
“The first thing you need to do is not have any family environment, which happened to me when I was vice president because none of my brothers did anything with the government,” he said.
The first step is the consolidation of the party.
On the other hand, Ricardo Marquez He indicated that he was in the process of consolidating the Democratic Alliance movement to materialize his candidacy for the presidency of the republic.
He noted that he is negotiating with businessmen and politicians on the creation of a political party, which, according to him, will have a centrist ideology. “Neither left nor right,” he said.
“You are not going to have a luxurious meeting here. We will have an ideology and a long-term goal,” he said.
Likewise, the former vice president was confident that the new political party would not be used as a “womb for rent”. In his opinion, this situation has contributed to the current political crisis, since the political groups represented in Congress are usually divided because they do not have members who do not share the same ideology.
“We don’t want to be a rental party, like, unfortunately, in Peru, because these are the results: parties that are not parties and divided without clear goals,” he said.
