The President of the Council of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, set out his position this Wednesday in a letter addressed to the President. Peter’s castlein which he thanks the trust placed in him and announces that he will return to his work as a university professor.
towers, who has been in office since February 8, 2022, indicates in his letter that the decision to resign is due to personal reasons. However, there is no question of irrevocable resignation.
“I am resigning after serving our country with you, especially the most neglected and forgotten people. […] Today, I must return to university classes with my students and return to what I missed most: legal studies, ”the letter says.
Hannibal Torres accompanied Peter’s castle since he was a candidate for the presidency of the Republic, and was appointed Minister of Justice in the first ministerial cabinet of the government, a position he held until February of this year.
After announcing his post, Torres arrived at the PCM’s headquarters in downtown Lima, but entered without making any press statement. The remaining members of the ministerial cabinet arrived at the premises located in the eastern wing of the Government Palace.
Reaction in Congress
Congressmen from different pews spoke after the chief of staff, Hannibal Torrespublish the letter sent Peter’s castle in which he places his office at the disposal of the President of the Republic.
AT Rotary Aircongressman Edgar Tellofrom the Arbitration Block, considered the departure of Anibal Torres a “very important loss” for the executive branch, which he said he hoped Peter’s castle not accept his resignation.
“We hope that a friend Hannibal Torres may well think about it, and that the president also make an appropriate decision so that this part of the management can continue,” he commented.
In the event that the president accepts his resignation, the pro-government legislator considered that Anibal Torres’ successor “is a sociable, dialogic, field person; that can raise the problem of the population.”
For his part, the disparate congressman Edward Malaga said that one can only speculate about the reasons that led to Hannibal Torres make his position available, although he did not hesitate to describe his leadership as head of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers (PCM) as “disastrous”.
“As a political representative and responsible for the actions of the government, part of this whole mechanism of institutional capture of the state is the wrong appointments in the ministries; in addition to a speech full of social indignation. There is little good to remember about this management,” he commented in News RPP.
Regarding a possible successor, Malaga indicated that he should be a person with a technical profile, mediator and “able to reach consensus”; “All that lord Hannibal Torres could not do and was expected before his appointment.
“Unfortunately, seeing the reluctance of President Castillo to amend, I doubt that this will happen. I also don’t think he’s capable of putting together a good manpower, and I don’t think good manpower can fit into this government so tainted with corruption,” he said.
congressman Jorge Montoya (Popular Renovation) stated that Anibal Torres’ possible departure is a positive development and called it “a belated gift for the national holidays”.
“It seems that he is already politically and physically exhausted; and he no longer wants to remain in his post,” he commented in Air rotary.
For the enemy during his reign, Torres created a “permanent confrontation”. “It didn’t solve any problems; where he was, he created more problems,” he said.
Montoya believed that Torres’ departure “would benefit the country.” “We hope that (Peter’s castle) to appoint someone who is suitable for this position, ”he put forward.
