Wilmar Elera: “We must make a political divorce, there must be a new president of the republic”

Third Vice President of Congress Wilmar Elera, in dialogue with RPP Newspointed out that, considering “signs of corruption” in the executive branch, they will “support” a possible new candidate for presidential vacancies.

“We must do political divorce and from there we made the decision to side with the opposition to tell Peru that we believe that there should be a new president of the republic. In this sense, if the movement of vacancies is solid, we will support her”, he referred.

Similarly, with regard to the executive branch, he indicated that he would support the departure of the current prime minister, Aníbal Torres, as chairman of the Council of Ministers (CPM).

“Currently, there is an opinion that (the president) is going to replace Anibal Torres. Hope he can comply and what could be real interlocutor between the executive and legislative branches,” he said.

Harmony with executive

Despite the decision to support the presidential candidacy, Elera noted that the new board of directors of the parliament will strive for “harmony” with the president of the republic.

“Lady Camones has declared as President of the Congress that there will be good harmony between executive and legislative in the beautification of our Peru. In addition to the problems that may arise from the confrontation between the two powers, Peru comes first, and Lady Camones stated that predisposition to work with the executive harmonize and harmonize laws,” he said.

In this sense, he indicated that they would seek meet with President Castillo in the coming days to work on bills that have been presented to Congress since his recent presidential address of July 28.

“We should meet with the president soon to see the bills that, according to him, are in the parliament. He talked about 45, but I was already told that he was 39.. The work of the new Board of Directors

“This Board of Directors was not elected in search of the office of President of the Republic (…) We have signed a pledge of honor indicating that, in case of vacancy of Dina Boluarte and Pedro Castilloa board of directors will be convened who will be able to choose the most suitable person, male or female, so that they can lead transition government,” he explained.

In this regard, he emphasized that “they are not desperate” to take over as Chair in the event of a vacancy, but that “a new plenary meeting will determine that and decisions will be made there”.

In addition, he stated that he was in favor of the restoration bicameralism in the Legislature in order to “increase the representativeness of the citizens”.

“In order to reduce the discrediting of the Congress, I think it is important to have a greater breadth of what parliamentary representation is, and that is why we must approve bicameralism (…) It will be better with two chambers, because we will have 60 senators and 130 deputies. This is what we want,” he said.
