Ad Hoc Attorney for Affairs Odebrecht D car wash can access the payment of possible civil compensation on behalf of the Peruvian state in the event that the former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and a group of individuals, including former government officials and businessmen, found responsible for the allegations against them in the case of the second and third sections of the South Inter-Ocean Highway.
This is because the judge Jorge Chavez Tamaris accepted the request of the defense of the Peruvian state to be recognized as a “civilian actor” or “injured party” in this case.
In said request, the Ad Hoc Attorney for Odebrecht D car wash offered to pay an initial solidarity sum of $1,169 million as civil compensation to the State as part of this preparatory investigation.
However, the foreign businessman’s lawyers Gerardo Sepulveda and four other defendants appealed against the decision of Judge Chávez Tamaris, disagreeing with the arguments set out in his ruling of 21 March, which, in his opinion, affect the right to a defense and due motivation in relation to the legal status of their defendants.
Lawyers upheld their appeals on July 11 before the Third Court of Appeal for Criminal Cases National, for example, after also hearing from the representative of the Special Prosecutor for Odebrecht D car wash announced that he would make a decision within the term of the law.
