congressman from People’s Action, Edwin Martinez, drew attention this Thursday in a plenary session of parliament, after he laid out reasons for not renewing the current legislature. For a parliamentarian, this would be “dishonest” because they don’t have December holidays.
“For the family, I believe that we should not expand this legislative body, because we are also parents, we are sons, we are brothers. We already have a December without holidays, and I don’t think it’s fair that the legislature is extended again, I don’t know for what interests,” he said during his speech.
Congress of the Republic officially announced the extension of the second regular legislative assembly of the 2021-2022 annual session until July 8 next year. The corresponding decree was signed by the head of parliament. Maria del Carmen Alvaalthough the Cambio Democrático bench criticized the measure at the time.
Edwin Martinez He continued his argument and also argued that the effectiveness would not be seen if they kept expanding the legislature over and over again.
“Efficiency, productivity will not be demonstrated, if the legislature continues to expand, then we will not be effective in the period that we should be, because of the effectiveness it should not be expanded, and I hope everyone agrees on this,” the deputy added .
His statements came after Congressman Nano Guerra Garcia issued an apology in Parliament after he was caught on the beach attending a meeting of Congress.

Congressman Hernando Guerra Garcia reappeared in the plenary session of Congress to express his apologies for being on the beach, as well as statements he made at the RPP in which he said “unfortunately he had to work.”
“A few days ago, due to a dissatisfied image, I became the object of criticism and all sorts of comments. I would like to offer some thoughts, not in defense, because I will do it in the Ethics Commission, before I myself ask that they look at my case. Like many people, I was looking for a place to be with my family (…),” he said at the beginning of his speech.
“I made a huge mistake, the mistake of wanting to do everything: to be with my daughter, whom I have seen very little since she went to study abroad, to handle my issues as a representative, to fulfill my duties as a congressman, and I was wrong. You can’t do everything, and therefore I apologize to you, my colleagues, and to all Peruvians, ”he continued.
