Police Stop Active Shooting At Texas Sports Complex Hosting 250 Children And Staff –

The killer opened fire Monday at a sports complex in Duncanville, Texas, where a summer camp was operating with about 250 children and staff present before police confronted the suspect, local authorities said.

No camp or personnel were injured, but the gunman was pronounced dead at the hospital after being shot by police.

The Duncanville Police Department named 42-year-old Brandon Keith Ned of Dallas as the killer Tuesday, but there are no other details to indicate based on an ongoing investigation and the cause is unknown. According to CNN.

Speaking at a press conference Monday detailing the incident, Matthew Stogner, Deputy Chief of Staff of Duncanville Police, said officers arrived at the scene at 8:45 a.m. after a two-minute warning about the police shooting. .

The shooter entered Duncanville Fieldhouse from the front door with a pistol, Stogner said.

Police said the gunman had just entered the building, the killer exchanged words with an employee and it was there that the first gun fired. At the sound of gunshots, staff responded quickly, took the children to a safe place and locked the door to the classroom under the foyer.

“They took the kids to a safe place and they started locking the doors,” Stogner said. “The suspect went to the classroom, did not enter and fired a gun at the classroom where the children were. Fortunately, no one was injured. “

The gunman entered the gymnasium where the other children were staying, but did not fire a single shot at them. It was there that the agents found him and then exchanged a gun that wounded the suspect.

The crew then evacuated the camp and locked the doors.

The campers, between the ages of 4 and 14, were taken to the Duncanville Recreation Center, where parents were asked to take them.

Police said Monday was the second week of operations at the camp.

The incident came three weeks after a mass shooting in the state that killed 19 students and two teachers at Wawald Robbie Elementary School.

Meanwhile, a bipartisan group of senators agreed to the terms of the deal, which could include enhanced screening for people under 21 and additional funding for mental health resources.

Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) Also said he was “comfortable” with the framework of the deal.

“I think, if this framework becomes real law, it will be a step forward, a step forward on a bipartisan basis, and even more to show the American people that we can be united in what we have done. repeatedly on issues like infrastructure.. and mail reform to make progress for the country, “McConnell told reporters Tuesday.
