If states insist on limiting reproductive rights, the least they can do is help these parents and their new children.
HuffPost is investigating 23 states that seek to limit or ban abortion if the Supreme Court overturns Ro Wade this summer. Looks like he’s ready to do that. We looked at whether they offer benefits such as paid family vacation, universal K advance, tax breaks to help families, and medical care.
23 states generally did not get good scores. Three states – Mississippi, South Dakota, and Wyoming – do not offer the seven benefits we have explored. The top scorers are Louisiana, Oklahoma and West Virginia, with four advantages. To make a comparison, for example, California and New York – both states where abortion is protected – both benefit.
“In the absence of federal action, the coup would be particularly devastating to states willing to ban abortion,” said Osub Ahmed, associate director for women’s health and rights at the Center for American Progress. “Most of these states have failed to develop policies or invest in programs that support mothers and their families by shaping women who are forced to continue pregnancy because of failure.”
In addition to the metrics found by HuffPost, Ahmed noted that fewer than 10 of these states require a minimum wage that exceeds the federal minimum of $ 7.25 per hour.

Paid family vacation: Zero out of 23 states limiting the provision of paid family leave abortion. The United States is one of the few countries in the world that does not offer this advantage. Although there is federal law that provides up to 12 weeks of leave from work for the birth of a child, this is a free period. It also only applies to companies with 50 or more employees and staff who have worked there throughout the year.

Medicaid Expansion: The Medicaid Program Pays for Approximately 10 In 4 Births According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, in the United States. The Affordable Care Act greatly expands those who qualify for Medicaid coverage by increasing health insurance for more people. But 12 states have not received the extension, including 10 that limit the right to abortion.

Pre-K complete or almost general: Five states in our group offer full or almost universal pre-K benefits available in Only 11 states and the District of Columbia according to the National Institute for Early Education Research. These states serve at least 70% of their 4-year-old population or are committed to the goal of universal pre-K.

State Income Tax Credit: The federally accepted income tax credit offers low- and middle-income taxpayers a payable loan based on income, marital status, number of children, and other measures. More than half of the states also offer state EITCs, including nine of the 23 states, with abortion restrictions. (Including Utah and Missouri on this list, however, according to the Urban Institute, will not take effect until 2023.)

State tax credit for children: The popular federal child tax credit offers tax breaks for families based on the number of children. Oklahoma and Idaho Only Offer a State Tax Credit for Children According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, however, unlike the federal, it is not refundable.

Protection of pregnant workers: Nine states This list includes laws that require some employers to provide reasonable accommodations for pregnant workers, such as moving them to another less dangerous location.

Medicaid 12 months after delivery: Federal law requires Medicaid reimbursement for pregnancy -related costs Up to 60 days after delivery. The Affordable Care Act also gave countries the opportunity to extend this coverage to 12 months. Ten states that seek to restrict the right to abortion have or intend to implement this extension.
Of course, the benefits here are only a small part of what is needed to help families – and support is needed long after babies and young children grow up.
But now, for many GOP politicians, the goal is not even to help parents and children.
