The federal government could demolish Robbie Elementary School in Waldale, Texas, and replace it with a new campus, the state senator said Sunday.
Texas Senator Roland Gutierrez, a Democrat in office, said President Joe Biden told him the White House would “demolish this school and build a new one.” Biden and First Lady Jill Biden visited Uvalde on Sunday to kill 19 children and two teachers after an armed assailant shot them at a school on Tuesday.
Emotionally Gutierrez said he is working with the White House to rebuild the school through the federal grant process.
“There’s a federal grant process for this.” He told KSAT, Local Television, every Sunday. “This is the sad part, there’s a federal protocol for schools like Columbine and others where they give you [millions to rebuild]… In what world do we live, that law is designed to destroy these schools. it doesn’t matter anymore. “
The local lawmaker added that he was also seeking funding for mental health facilities in Wawald, adding, “I can’t tell you how many young children I’ve talked to who don’t want to return to this building.”
“We’re going to make real money for mental health,” he said. “This is a society that will need therapy. There is a psychiatrist in Wawald, very few mental health therapists. We will change this. It is necessary”.
