Indiana Lawmakers Pass Trans Sports Ban, Overrides Gov –

Indianapolis (AP) – Republican lawmakers in Indiana debated Tuesday to remove the GOP governor’s veto A bill banning transgender women from competing in school girls’ sports and joining more than a dozen other state Adoption of similar laws Over the past two years.

State senators voted 32-15 in favor of ousting Governor Eric Holcombe after the same action, against 67-28, passed by the House the same day. Holcomb said in a veto message that the bill did not include a coherent policy of what he called “justice in K-12 sports” when he abruptly vetoed it in March.

Opponents say the bill is a fantastic answer to a problem that doesn’t exist. The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana said it intends to sue the “hate law” in hopes of blocking its entry into force as scheduled for July 1.

Republican Sponsors Sets This Claim is necessary to protect the integrity of women’s sports and to obtain college sports scholarships for women, but we did not mention the chances where women are higher than transgender and athletes.

Opponents say the bill is a fantastic answer to a problem that doesn’t exist.

“(This event) does not solve the problem. It doesn’t bring people together. “It’s not good for our state,” Democratic Senator Jay Ford of Indianapolis said before the Senate vote. “Why are you lobbying the government to solve this problem, when there is none?”

Republican Senate President Protem Rodrigue Bray said the state needed politics and called it a “simple matter of justice.”

“We don’t want to complain about Indiana, but it happens from time to time,” Bray said. “It’s a policy that I think we can uphold.”

The veto votes came at a special one -day meeting 11 weeks after the end of this year’s legislative session. Instead, Democrats called on lawmakers to act on the proposal to Suspend 56 cents per gallon in state taxes amid rising fuel prices nationwide. The Republican did not comply with this request.

Phil Wayne, leader of the Fort Wayne Democratic Party, the House of Representatives, worries that Republicans are focusing on divided cultural issues that “do nothing to advance Indiana.”

“Obviously, we have some pressing issues that affect Husser on a daily basis, including the high fuel prices we see across the state,” GiaQuinta said. “You can use this day to help Hussein get better.”

Activists rallied against the ban before the lawmaker voted. Dozens of attendees, including several families of transgender youth, played sidewalk games around the State House lawn. They argued that the Indiana ban was not aimed at elite athletes but at kids who wanted to play on a team with friends.

“We are here to stop the hatred and discrimination that can affect my family for the rest of my life,” said Kara Nimsky, mother of a transgender woman from Bloomington. “Sport is an important part for teenagers. My son’s dream was to play basketball in high school. It’s an unfair exception: if it happens it will destroy you.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana said it intends to sue the “hate law” in hopes of blocking its entry into force as scheduled for July 1.

In his veto letter, Holcomb pointed to the Indiana High School Athletics Association, which has a policy that includes transgender students who want to play a sport that fits their gender identity and said no transgender woman has completed the application. to play on a women’s team. The law will not prevent students identified as transgender women or men from playing on men’s sports teams.

Holcomb said in a veto message that the bill suggested that “there is a problem with K-12 sports in Indiana that requires further state government intervention,” but found no evidence to support this claim “even though I support the whole effort “.
