The Eighth Preparatory Court of Investigation of the National High Court of Justice denied a request for 36 months of pre-trial detention for former First Lady Lilia Paredes and her brothers. Walter and David Paredes for the alleged crime of a criminal organization. Judge Raul Justiniano felt that the Ministry of State should demand a change in the mere appearance that matters to those involved in the case, rather than the precautionary measure set out in his request.
“It would be appropriate to change the measure of simple appearance and not expressly formulate the requirement for pre-trial detention, for which reason the refusal to satisfy the petition Public service and defend the annulment formulated by the defense lawyers,” the magistrate said.
“It must be stated that this resolution is not a restriction or an obstacle to Public service so that he can proceed, in accordance with his powers, to formulate the requirements that he deems appropriate, in the manner and manner established by the norm,” he added.
Subsequently, the prosecutor, who is in charge of the case, appealed the decision of the judge and specified that he would support his petition within the time limits established by law: “We are appealing. We justify it in the appropriate period.”
