People’s Action Congressman Luis Aragon confirmed this Wednesday, March 15, that the conditions do exist. legal, technical and electoral to clarify the progress of the elections for 2024. This, after Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations (SAC) yesterday rejected a proposal to hold elections in December 2023.
IN News extensionHe legislatorwhich is included in SAKsaid he initially supported initiative which provided for the promotion elections by 2023; however, he believes that at the moment the election scenario for this year does not correspond to the deadlines set in the election schedule.
Thus, he justified his vote against the proposal and reiterated that the best offer is to promote elections in 2024.
“If advancing the election for December of this year was approved, the first vote was in the plenary session of Congress in March; the second in August. If we consider August ahead, then the eight months that the chairman of the National Electoral Jury himself tells us about do not fit into this electoral calendar. Legally, technically and chronologically, this is not feasible,” he commented.
Emphasizing that no political will point to the progress of the elections, which failed on more than two occasions in parliamentAragon announced that he would soon speak to members of his Bench to ask them to support a possible draft constitutional reform to hold elections in 2024
“Yes, I will support [la propuesta]but I can’t guarantee for the gentlemen of my bench. But I will ask within my bench that the vote be conscious, criteria and freedom of conscience for voting, ”he said.
In his opinion, this period will allow Congress to introduce and approve “some minimal reforms” in electoral and constitutional matters.
“At the moment, there is a legal, technical, electoral and chronological opportunity for 2024,” he said.
