The president Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations (SAC)Lady Camones, referred to the constitutional complaint against former ministers Betsy Chavez, Roberto Sanchez and Willy Huerta and mentioned that it could end suspense. He also mentioned that the complaint filed by MP Patricia Chirinos does not have such consequences, since it could lead to disability.
“The first complaint filed by the National Attorney relates to the crimes of conspiracy and sedition. Therefore, when it comes to crimes, the additional penalty associated with the abolition of the (parliamentary) forum could be suspension. However, when complaints such as Congressman Chirinos what is this constitutional violation entails a disqualification sanction, as well as, in some cases, a suspension. Disqualification is always tied to a constitutional offense and not to crimes,” he said in a statement. News Extension from PTR.
What is the process to get complete?
The head of the EAC explained the necessary steps so that the final report on the complaint, recently approved, could be put to a vote in the plenary session of Congress.
“What the subcommittee comes to a conclusion is the first instance. It then goes to the Standing Committee, which, if it also has a majority, simply goes to plenary session. The plenary session of the Congress of the Republic will vote, except for those who are members of the Standing Committee, and If we manage to get a majority there, their immunity will be lifted and they will be suspended as long as the process lasts.. If the process lasts six months and it is found that they are not guilty, they return to continue being congressmen. And if not, then it is obvious that they are already retired. For the duration of their suspension, the grantee is called upon to act as a congressman representing the region from which he (…). On dates between March 20 and 22, it should already reach the plenary session, ”he said.
“Anibal Torres cannot be included”
On another occasion, Camones Soriano explained why the former prime minister Hannibal Torres was not included in the complaint, which reaches Betsy Chavez, Roberto Sanchez and Willy Huerta. However, he believed that his involvement was evident in the attempted coup d’état led by former President Pedro Castillo.
“Precisely because he was not a Minister of State, he could not be included in this complaint to the Subcommittee on Constitutional Charges. Not being an adviser, it is appropriate that he be summoned by the prosecutor’s office, because, obviously, we all know that he was involved at the time of his coup d’état,” he concluded.
