Education Minister Oscar Becerra said this Sunday that school classes in Puno will start on March 20one week after the rest of the regions, because the same regional government believes that this is the ideal date for observing the 39 corresponding weeks.

“Today I read with great satisfaction, even though the intent seemed to be to deny me, the Puno Regional Government’s statement that they want to start the school year and that they are going to guarantee 39 weeks even when they plan to start March 20, I must say that this is part of his mandate, ”he explained in an interview with the Punto Final program.

Oscar Becerra lamented the bad conditions in infrastructure of several schoolsbut pointed out that this is a problem that did not start with this government.

“We are in a “post-war” situation. May not be out of stock Ministry of Education as if we didn’t know that it rains every year. One prefabricated class, as if we did not know that every year the school is swept away by a mudflow. There isn’t one. We are not being pulled, as the report says, we are negative,” he said.

On the other hand, he reiterated that a teachers’ strike was not advisable at the present time, because everything that the unions had agreed with the previous government had been fulfilled.

“There are no legal grounds for going on strike. Therefore, any strike they make will be illegal and sanctioned. A teacher who does not attend (classes) is deducted (his salary),” he stressed.

Announce the construction of additional schools

Regional Director for Education of the Metropolitan of Lima, Luis Quintanilla Gutierrezannounced last Thursday to build more schools and expand enrollment in each section after admitting there is a historic infrastructure gap in the capital.
