Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament, Maria del Carmen Alvanoted that his parliamentary working group would consider declaring the President of Mexico persona non grata, Andres Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
“It’s already a shame (…) Since the commission we’ve been talking (about constant interference), we’ve done everything we could do. This is a matter of political gesture (declaring persona non grata) we have done with Gustavo Petro”, pointed to information
In this sense, he indicated that at the end of the week of parliamentary representation, he, together with his advisers, will consider a proposal on this matter.
“Everything is evaluated in the commission, which I head as the head, I prepare the relevant proposals and present them at meetings. (…) Since we are in the week of representation, I have not met with my advisers, commissions do not work. (…) (Declaring persona non grata) will be an issue that will of course be judged,” he said.
He also stressed that, on his instructions, “protection against these attacks” will be carried out by the President of Mexico. “We are not going to put up with this,” he stressed.
“We expect a change in the position of the president of AMLO”
For his part, the Minister of Justice Jose Telloin dialogue with RPP Noticias, pointed out that one way to resolve the current tension between Mexico and Peru is to change the attitude of the Mexican president.
“In principle, without a doubt, there should be a change in the attitude of the President (AMLO), since he holds a position that affects the sovereignty of Peru, it is obvious that he interferes in the internal affairs of Peru. And it’s wrong, he can’t do it,” he said.
Similarly, he called it “unfortunate” that the president’s stance has led to the current diplomatic stalemate.
“In international relations, you must maintain the level of respect that the President of Mexico violated. Unfortunately for the historical relationship with Mexico (…) What we have in Mexico is the attitude of the ruler in office,” he said.
In addition, the head of justice stressed that all Peruvians should “support the President’s decision in the light of the position of the President Mexico”.
