Likewise, the President of the Republic reaffirmed that she would not resign from her office and that the promotion of a general election was a task that rested solely with the Congress, and for that reason she would remain at the head of the government as long as the Legislative Assembly determined date of said elections.
Given these political developments, the latest review by the Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP) prepared for republican newspaper, shows that the disapproval of parliament and the president continues to grow. In addition, the vast majority demand the promotion of general elections.
Congressional and government disapproval
The above survey was conducted from February 18 to 22 and shows that 90% of citizens do not accept work parliament. It should be noted that this figure has not ceased to grow since December last year, when disapproval Congress stood at 80%, and in January it rose to 89%.
It should be noted that in southern macroregion, refusal in the direction of the Legislative Assembly reaches 95%. At the national level, only 6% support the work of parliamentarians.

In addition, 73% of those polled believe that Boluarte should step down as president, while 25% believe that he should remain in office. This percentage is higher in rural Peru, where 86% are demanding their resignation, 77% in urban Peru and 59% in metropolitan Lima. In this latter area, the percentage of those who believe that Boluarte should remain in office is higher, with 37% in favor of the indicated option.
It is also worth noting that institutions such as the Peruvian National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces (FF.AA.) are also assessed negatively by citizens. 55% of citizens reject the work of the police in the latest mobilizations, and 41% approve of this work.
As for the Armed Forces, 48% do not approve of their actions in the current political and social crisis, while 46% support them.
promotion of general elections
In terms of moving forward with general elections, the poll shows that 69% of the population is demanding they be held this year, while 19% believe they should be held in 2024. In short, 88% of citizens demand that they be held before these elections. .
In terms of congressional action to approve constitutional reform to allow said elections, only 28% believe it can be approved in 2023; 24% believe that it can be approved in 2024. In addition, 52% believe that after the new elections the country “will become better”, and 28% believe that “it will remain the same.” Only 7% believe that the situation will worsen after the elections.
In terms of a possible constituent assembly, the IEP poll shows that 47% believe changes should be made to the current constitution; and 36% believe that the Magna Carta should be completely changed. Only 13% believe that no changes should be made to the 1993 Constitution.

The IEP survey was conducted from February 18 to February 22, 2023 with a representative sample of 1,201 national respondents, male and female, aged 18 and over, across 24 departments, 153 provinces, and 432 districts.
