Third Vice President of Congress Alejandro Mugnante (“People’s Renewal”) asked Ministry of Foreign Affairs urgently evaluate the conclusion Peruvian Ambassador in Colombia Felix Denegri Bozafollowing statements by Colombian President Gustavo Petro against National Police of Peru (PNP).
In a document sent to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ana Gervasi, legislator quoted Petro as referring to the massive deployment of police officers in response to the protests convened in center of LimaFebruary 9th.
“As you know, on Saturday, February 11, Gustavo Petro said during a speech: “Peru is marching like Nazis against its own people, violating the American Convention on Human Rights,” the document says. Official Letter No. 193-2022-2022.
man argued that these remarks constituted “illegal interference” by a foreign government in the internal affairs of Peru, as well as an “insult to all Peruvians”. Thus, he believed that the authorities of the Peruvian state should give a “uniform answer”.
“Call on her to appreciate the recall of the Peruvian Ambassador to Colombia in response to the unacceptable statements made by Colombian President Gustavo Petro to our respected police,” the letter says.
They declared Gustavo Petro persona non grata.
Tuesday, February 14 Commission on Foreign Relations Congress approved the proposal for the agenda, which proposes express disapproval to the statements made President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, against the Peruvian National Police (PNP). In particular, the document, approved by 13 votes in favor, 3 abstentions and none against, proposes:express their opposition to the unacceptable expressions of Gustavo Petro UrregoPresident of Colombia, which are an insult to our national police of Peru, the Republic of Peru and, by downplaying the Holocaust, are also an insult to the entire Jewish people, many of whose members are citizens of Peru.
In addition, it seeks to declare Petro “persona non grata” and asks the Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs “take the necessary steps to ensure that Gustavo Petro Urrego, President of the Republic of Colombia, does not enter the national territory”.
In the same vein, he asked the Foreign Office to use diplomatic channels to send a proposal for an agenda to the Colombian minister in Peru, Eufracio Morales.
