The executive branch ordered today, Friday, to extend the state of emergency for 60 days in 44 districts of the region. Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Cusco And Junin.
Through the Supreme Decree published in the Official Gazette Peruvian man, said extension was ordered with the approval of the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte; head of cabinet Alberto Otarola; defense minister, Jorge Chavez Cross; Minister of Justice, Jose Tello; and Minister of the Interior Vincent Romero.
“Continuation of terrorist activities”
The above rule indicates that this measure was prescribed on the recommendation of “the head of the counter-terrorism department of the operations department of the Home Front of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces”, due to “the continuity terrorist activity and committing other unlawful acts.
In this regard, the Government indicated that “it is appropriate to extend the state of emergency” from the 11th of this month until April 11, 2023, when “ Armed Forces (FFAA.) take control of internal order” in the areas covered by the measure, and National Police of Peru (PNP) supports the military establishment “in achieving the stated purpose”.
“Order the Unified Command of the Armed Forces to assume the functions of the Unified Command of the Armed Forces and the National Police in the areas and localities specified (…) in accordance with the provisions (…) of the Legislative Decree of the Unified Command of the Armed Forces, as well as in the Imperial Decree No. 004-2013-DE, defining the scope of the Command in actions and military operations in areas declared under a state of emergency,” the decree says.
For 60 days “exercise constitutional rights relating to the inviolability of the home, freedom of movement within the national territory, freedom of assembly and personal liberty and security”
It should be noted that on December 13, a state of emergency was already declared in 44 of these districts. The measure came to an end today, February 10.
