The Congressional Constitutional Commission filed an executive branch bill to hold elections this year. This situation leaves no options for holding elections this year, and parliamentarians noted that the possibility of the resignation of President Dina Boluarte.
Congresswoman Ruth Luke criticized the decision in Parliament, as she assured that this indicates that lawmakers do not want to leave before 2026.
“The way out of this crisis lies in executive branchbecause it is clear that after so many sessions today there is a blockade to prevent debate about early elections. Only resignation remains Dina Boluarte. The Attorney General says it’s the responsibility of Congress. And what are we doing? They are blocking the decision,” he said as he left the Constitutional Commission.
From my side, Alejandro Cavero said that Dina Boluarte she must resign if she cannot take over the reins of the country. In that sense, he questioned the president’s desire to hold Congress responsible for moving forward with the election.
“The task of the president is to govern the country, deal with social problems. If she does not feel that she is capable or not up to the task, she should step aside, but it is not her task to impose solutions on another force of the state, in which, as you have seen, there is a melting pot of very different opinions,” said MP Avanza Pais .
deputy of People’s Action, Ilyich Lopezstated that Fuerza Popular did an irresponsible act by changing the dates early election for this year, when consensus has already been reached.
“The issue of resignation now depends on Mrs. Boluarte. Responsible for the cancellation of early elections with 93 votes are … you know which bank. I consider it an act of irresponsibility to interrupt work that has already been done, everything is back, and the rules must be respected,” he said.
They refuse to revise
The Congressional Constitutional Committee rejected a reconsideration to reconsider the possibility of approving a bill introduced by the executive branch to advance the election. This requirement was formulated by legislator Ruth Luke, but did not receive the required number of votes.
This reconsideration barely received 9 votes in favor and 8. It required the support of half plus one member of the working group for its approval; that is, 14. When this did not happen, it was confirmed that the initiative of the executive power goes into the archive.
