Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi will leave tomorrow, Monday, for United States of America (USA) to meet “with senior leadership” of the government of this country with the aim of “development and strengthening of bilateral relations” at the national level.

The trip was sanctioned by a supreme decree published today in the legal bulletin of the Official Gazette. Peruvian mansigned by the President Dina BoluarteChairman of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otarolaand the Chancellor herself.

Working meetings

Gervasi will visit Washington between next Monday, January 30 and Thursday, February 2, to discuss areas “such as the development of high-level bilateral dialogue” and participate in working meetings “that will allow for closer ties and closer contacts with the authorities of the United States of America and representatives of the private sector in this country.”

The government indicated that the chancellor’s participation in these meetings was “of national interest” and indicated that during her absence her position would be entrusted to the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, José Tello.

Recall that last week the Chancellor took part in the VII Summit Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Selak) it was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he questioned that “some governments from particularly close countries did not accompany Peru in this difficult institutional situation” that it faces, referring to the current social and political crisis in Peru.

Gervasi He said these countries, which he did not name, “have prioritized ideological affinity, unconditional support for the rule of law and constitutional continuity,” referring to the December 7 inauguration of then-Vice President Boluarte, replacing Pedro Castillo, who was released by Congress after an attempted state coup.

diplomatic measures

The Peruvian government recalled its ambassadors to Mexico And in Honduras after the rulers of these countries criticized the suppression of anti-government demonstrations, and also protested the statements of the presidents of Colombia, Bolivia and Chile, which he considered interference in internal affairs.

Last Thursday, the US Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) Francisco Mora, He assured that his country is “committed to supporting the Peruvian government not only in dialogue, but also in supporting and ensuring the investigation of the deaths recorded during the protests.”

Boluarte intervened last Tuesday before OASin fact, where he ratified his proposal to hold a general election as a way to achieve a “peaceful” solution to the serious crisis that has erupted since last December.
