During the presentation and reception ceremony 32 ambulances donated by the Japanese government At the Ministry of Health, President Dina Boluarte called on citizens to take good care of these vehicles in order to fully guarantee the right to life and health. He also asked to work together to spend “orderly and democratic transition”.

“We hope that these units are doing the job they were created for: saving lives, transporting patients, always arriving on time to call on our populations in need. To our brothers and sisters who will benefit from these units, I ask you to take care of them, because these ambulances belong to everyone.. Let us continue to work together to maintain and protect health, to build the social peace we so badly need, to promote dialogue with all sectors to guarantee an orderly and democratic transition and thus open the way of hope for the Peruvian people. And I hope everyone, united in one heart, to stake on what our brothers and sisters in vulnerable cities are waiting for, to stake on the development of the homeland,” the president said at a ceremony also attended by Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi and Health Minister Rosa Gutierrez.

Boluarte’s statements came a day after a group of vandals blocked kilometer 263 of the Panamericana-Sur Highway in a sector known as Chinatown, in Ica. Given this, the head of the fire company, Charles Magellanreferred to RPP News that there was a pregnant woman inside the unit.

“Irreconcilable people threw stones at an ambulance. Thank God our troops are fine; but we have material damage,” he said.

“Violent groups prevented the right to health”

Subsequently, within the framework of an intergovernmental meeting, boluart condemned the actions “violent gangs” that they would take advantage of the demonstrations to damage the right to health.

“Health is and should be public policy, health is transversal, health has no color or political flags. In this sense I cannot stop condemning and regretting that these aggressive groups, taking advantage of the demonstrations of citizens, have caused damage and prevented the right to health of the Peruvian people from being guaranteed. They damaged 19 ambulances, prevented the delivery of patients to hospitals, prevented the transfer of medicines to health centers, and blocked the vaccination process. However, as a state and as a government, we must guarantee the fundamental and constitutional right to health, life and integrity of 33 million Peruvians,” he said.
