The Congressional Constitutional Commission, chaired by Fujimori MP Hernando Guerra Garcia, is debating a start date for a second legislature with a view to approving an early second-instance general election. The initiative was promoted by a board of directors headed by Legislative President Jose Williams.
It should be noted that both Congressman Sucel Paredes and Digna Calle indicated that the legislature’s advancement should be done as soon as possible; so they proposed to start it from February 1st.
What this figure wants is to ratify a bill that proposes holding a general election for an exceptional time. This was due to a wave of protests registered in different parts of the country demanding the resignation of President Dina Boluarte and the closure of Congress. To date, 54 people have died as a result of the demonstrations, according to official figures.
