Eleven thousand policemen will be responsible for guarding the capital until the announcement of the day of demonstrations called “The Capture of Lima”. PPP agents from different units and officials from the Crime Prevention Prosecutor’s Office and the Ombudsman’s Office met at El Potao Police Headquarters.
A large group of prosecutors is ready to check how and what elements the police are going to use in connection with this day of protests.
General Viktor Zanabriathe head of the Lima police station, noted that the deployment of law enforcement will take place in all areas of the capital.
“We have 11,800 troops for policing tasks only. This is separate from the 14,000 police officers who performed their duties in police stations, criminal investigation departments and other functional activities of the institution. The deployment is taking place in all parts of Lima, both in the north, in the south, in the east and even in Callao. The intention is to be able to guarantee that all citizens carry out their economic and cultural activities in full normalcy. And if there is a march of about 1,000 or 1,500 people who have expressed that they are going to participate in assembly points, especially on May 2, we guarantee freedom of assembly, freedom of expression, the right to protest, as long as it is peaceful and does not affect others people,” he said.
In addition, he stated that persons who violate public or private property will be placed at the disposal of the State Ministry to act in accordance with the law.
“(If someone violates public and private property) it is established in our criminal system. They will be arrested, taken to the police station, the welfare department will proceed with the paperwork, and they will be available. Ministry of Industry and Trade,” he added.
Prosecutor Barnechi: “We check and coordinate with the police the use of non-lethal weapons”
For its part, the prosecutor for the prevention of crime, Alfonso Barnecheaclarified that part of the joint work with the TNG is the verification of the use of non-lethal weapons.
“The State Ministry is appointing 50 prosecutors who will carry out crime prevention tasks during the displacement due to the so-called ‘Tom Lima’ march. We’re taking action with the provincial attorney on duty. We not only check and coordinate the use of non-lethal weapons with the police, but also with monitoring centers surveillance cameras,” he concluded.
