The publication notes that during a massive war, Ukrainians have shown that lies can be exposed, and fear can be fought.

The influential weekly English-language magazine The Economist named the country of the year. In 2022, it becomes Ukraine. This is stated on the website of the publication.

“In normal times, it’s difficult to choose a country of the year for The Economist. Our writers and editors start a discussion that turns into an argument. But this year, for the first time since we started naming countries of the year in 2013 , the choice is clear. It can only be Ukraine,” the statement said.

It is noted that usually such a title goes to the country, which, in the opinion of the publication, has improved the most in the last 12 months. But this year, Ukrainians showed themselves, and the authors identified four main qualities: heroism, ingenuity, perseverance and inspiration.

“The people of Ukraine stood up and fought. President Volodymyr Zelensky, rejecting Western proposals to get him out of Kyiv, allegedly snapped that he needed “ammunition, not transport.” Ordinary Ukrainians showed a similar character,” the newspaper emphasized.

Time previously reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was named Person of the Year for his leadership during the all-out war with Russia.
