Traditionally, the King of Great Britain was crowned with a 17th-century crown in a ceremony at Westminster Abbey. He will also wear the crown of the imperial state while serving.
The Crown of Saint Edward is a relic used during coronations. It was last worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation in 1953.
The crown was commissioned from the royal jeweler Robert Weiner in 1661. It repeats the medieval original, with four cross-pattes, four fleurs-de-lis and two arches. It is known that the relic consists of a solid gold setting decorated with rubies, amethysts, sapphires, garnets, topazes and tourmalines. The crown has a velvet cap with an ermine ribbon.
