In late December and early January, Ukrainians are expected to have three three-day weekends: for Catholic Christmas, New Year and Orthodox Christmas.
In January 2023, New Year and Christmas are celebrated in Ukraine. These are public holidays, so they are days off.
According to the calendar for next year, January 1 falls on a Sunday, and Christmas, January 7, falls on a Saturday.
Also, this year, Western Rite Christmas, December 25, falls on a Sunday.
As stated in Article 73 of the Code of Ukraine On Pratsyu, if major state or religious holidays fall on a non-working day, the next Monday after them is also a day of rest.
December 26, January 2 and 9, 2023 shall be public holidays.
However, in 2022, due to martial law, which will last until February 19, 2023, all additional holidays starting March 8, 2022 are canceled.
So, there are no holidays in the country.
It should be noted that these standards apply to employees of public institutions. The heads of private companies can set the rest and work schedules of the staff themselves.
Remember, on the morning of February 24, Ukraine introduced martial law after a full-scale attack by Russia. After that, martial law was repeatedly extended – in March, April, May, August and November.
