Ukrainian singer Tina Karol performed a Ukrainian song at the opening of the exhibition This is Ukraine: Defending Independence within Venice Biennale 2022.
The opening took place on Thursday, April 21st. It began with a speech by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Karol composed the national anthem of Ukraine a a cappella.
In addition to him, the Mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro, the President of the Venice Biennale Roberto Cicutto, the Ukrainian businessman and philanthropist Viktor Pinchuk, the leader of the group Ocean Elzy Svyatoslav Vakarchuk spoke to the official part, and the Ukrainian Ambassador to Italy Yaroslav Melnyk read a letter from the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenskaya.

The first part shows the monumental works of three female artists and painters who continued to live and work in Ukraine during the Russian war – Evgenia Belorusets, Nikita Kadan and Lesya Khomenko.
The second part consists of works by Ukrainian artists and artists, presented together with international colleagues of Ukraine. Featured authors include Marina Abramovic (Serbia), Olafur Eliasson (Denmark), JR (France), Damien Gerst (UK), Boris Mikhailov (Ukraine) and Takashi Murakami (Japan).
