The diary, called You don’t know what war is, was written by the girl under enemy fire.
The English actress and model Keira Knightley revealed a diary called You Don’t Know What War Is, which belonged to 12-year-old Eva Skaletska from Kharkov. The Bookseller reported it.
On October 25 this year, the diary of a Kharkiv woman was published in the print of the British publishing house Bloomsbury. The right to publish it was won in a seven-party auction in June, and its release will be accompanied by events and a media campaign in the UK and Ireland, including radio and print media interviews with the girl.
The book, illustrated by Michael Morpurgo, has been compared to the diary of Anne Frank for its powerful insight into the conflict through the eyes of a child.
“You don’t know what war is” had a big impact on me. This is an incredibly important story that is both powerful and deeply moving. I am honored to be a part of this publication, which tells the extraordinary story of Eve’s inspiration and courage,” the two-time Oscar nominee shared his impressions.
Also, sound engineer Tom Skipp, in turn, noticed the skill of Knightley, who was able to convey Eva’s thoughtful and insightful voice.
“It means a lot to Eva that Kira chose to work on this important book and Kira has done something really special with her approach to it. She pays tribute to Eva’s innocence, youth but wisdom that goes beyond her year tone, and the perfect image of Kira is sensitive, intimate and, finally, very believable,” he said.
It was previously reported that Cate Blanchett and her colleagues filmed a documentary about Kharkov.
