This is the last known legal document autographed by an 80s music celebrity.
British cult musician John Lennon’s last letter was sold at auction house Gotta Have Rock for $64,000. This was reported by TMZ.
The star showed the letter to his accountant Barry Nichols on December 8, 1980. That is, just a few hours before he was shot in New York.
Experts value it from 30 to 50 thousand dollars, but at the end of a 17-day online auction, a flurry of bidders hit the letter.
The identity of the buyer has not been disclosed.
It is noteworthy that Lennon signed this letter. Thus, it became the last known legal document with his autograph. The text lists the names of the three trustees Lennon chose to vote for at the Beatles’ annual meeting. It was supposed to take place over 9 days in London.
But a few hours after writing, the musician was shot by Mark David Chapman outside the apartment building of Dakota, John and Yoko Ono in New York. Chapman was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a celebrity.
