A resident of the city of Iijonbu used someone else’s avatar and lied about his age when registering for the South Korean metaverse. In particular, he offered gifts to minors to encourage them to take and send pictures of his body which he kept – not for sale.
The man was involved in illegal activities from December 2021 to March of this year.
Because of this, he was charged with violating the Child and Youth Protection Act. In addition to a four-year prison sentence, he must complete an 80-hour sex offender treatment program.
The perpetrator was also banned from working in any institution related to teenagers and the disabled for seven years.
It was previously reported that Mark Zuckerberg posted a selfie from the metaverse of his $10 billion company Horizon Worlds.
