Session duration is 45 minutes. He will update the shoes for free using a digital 3D model.
American multinational sportswear and footwear company Nike released a robot called Bot Imitated Longevity Lab (BILL). He will polish and repair old sneakers in a store in London, writes the Daily Mail.
“People will try to take care of their favorite shoes. Product repair is a way to enhance our memory of a product. We see BILL as a tool to achieve this,” said Noah Murphy-Reinhertz , Head of Sustainability at Nike NXT .
BILL is a robotic system that uses water-based cleaners and recycled polyester patches to give new life to old shoes.
Currently, the robot is able to extend the life of four popular Nike running shoes: Air Force 1, Air Jordan 1, Space Hippie 01 and Nike Dunks.
The device first creates a digital 3D model of the shoe to identify areas that need to be cleaned on the upper, sidewalls and sole. Then he gets to work, beginning a deep cleaning process using water-based cleaners and rotating brushes similar to car washes.
“Advanced digital readings help the robot use robotic precision to care for the areas your shoe needs,” Nike explained in a release.
Once the shoe is nice and clean, buyers can choose patches to fix the torn areas on the top of the shoe. Also offers new lining and recycled laces.
“BILL is an experiment with a purpose: Nike envisions a circular future where products are made with the intent to reuse, redesign and explore as something new,” the company said.
