Prince Albert II’s wife said her cousin had disappeared for drowning, and emphasized: no family should experience such sadness.

Princess Monaco Charlene shares a painful memory from her childhood, emphasizing the risk of water and the importance of teaching children swimming.

According to Monaco Life, against the backdrop of anxious French drowning statistics, Prince Albert II’s wife called the situation “a major threat to the country.”

“When I was young, my cousin Richard drowned in the river. He was only five years old. It was a real blow to the whole family. I was convinced that such a disease was never going through,” Charlene said.

The personal tragedy and experience of a professional athlete motivated the princess in 2012 to create a charity fund, which now works in more than 45 countries in the world. Its main purpose is to train children to swim and to populate water safety policies.

“Water may give joy, but at the same time it is merciless. Even experienced swimmers do not ensure from danger. Children may drown in seconds, and it often happens quietly, without shouting or spraying. No family should experience such a disease that my experience is used to save others,” the princess emphasized.

Charlene had previously played for the Olympic team of South Africa for swimming. In 2011, he married Prince Albert II, and in 2014 the couple became the parents of the twins Jacques and Gabriella.

Earlier it was reported that a new picture of Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella was published.
