At the 94th Academy Awards, Will Smith punched his co-star when he made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada.
American actor and director Will Smith, who slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars after joking about his wife, has issued a public apology. The video was posted on Youtube.
It was learned that the actor had previously wanted to apologize in person, but the comedian did not reach out and said he would let Will know when he was ready to speak.
“I contacted Chris and I got a message that he wasn’t ready to talk and when he was he would be in touch. So, I’ll tell you Chris, I’m sorry. My behavior and I’ll be here when you’re ready to talk,” he said.
The Oscar-winning actor emphasized that he admitted his mistake and apologized to Chris and his colleagues, whom he had disappointed.
“I’m trying. I’m sorry, but I’m trying not to embarrass myself. I’m human. I made mistakes. And I would like not to consider myself a piece of shit,” he said.
It was previously reported that the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has banned actor Will Smith from attending the Oscars for ten years.
