As part of team rally exercises, engineers from General Motors do not expect to beat a world record for electric vehicles, but they will not give it to the Guinness Book of Records.
A team of General Motors engineers was able to overcome 1704 km with a Silverado Ev Electric Pickup battery charge, the official range of which, according to EPA, was only 710 km. According to The Verge, despite improving the world’s 500 km record, GM does not plan to give the result to the Guinness record.
The event was fixed as an exercise for rallying with the team, but they prepared for it a huge intensive: 40 engineers planned a route and approach for months, and the breed itself took a whole week -the drivers replaced each other with a seven -day marathon.
To achieve such a wonderful scope, engineers used almost all possible methods -the tire pressure raised to the most safe level to reduce resistance, removed the spare tires to reduce the loading, and that would optimize the collapse of the wheels. The wipers lowered the lower position, and the car itself almost all the time moved to the driver and there was no air conditioning. Tests are conducted on the tag -day to prevent the negative effect of cold on the battery.
However, the most important factor is to observe a stable low speed -approximately 32-40 km/h. As a result, the team limited itself to quiet roads near the Milford test center and internal routes to Bell-Ail island in Detroit. It’s hard to get to these locations without loss of effectiveness – sometimes I have to go faster so as not to create a risk on the roads.
In these restrictions, GM has reached its note in almost perfect conditions, while other note attempts in the world are carried out in more real. As such, it is unknown if the result meets the standards set by the Guinness Book of Records, but we probably won’t know it – after all, GM does not mean to provide a record for the consideration. Accordingly, the note remains for the Lucid Air Grand Touring, which pushed 1205 km, which was 500 km less, but the route ran into the snakes of the Alps and the breed did not take a whole week – installing it on a weekend.
