After the winner of the Eurovision-2025 winner of the need to exclude Israel from the competition, the Austrian broadcaster emphasized this artist’s personal position.
After a strong success in the Eurovision, 2025 Austrian performer JJ was at the center of the scandal because of his political statement.
In a commentary after the show, which took place in Switzerland, the actress equals Israel in Russia and is called excluding the country from participating in the competition.
Such words caused a quick reaction from the Austrian Orf public broadcaster. The organization said JJ’s comments were his private opinion and did not reflect the channel position:
“JJ’s statements reflect his personal opinion,” the ORF said, quoted by Spiegel, said.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) took a similar position, emphasizing that the competition remains an apolitical platform:
“They have the right to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest each year, if they meet the requirements,” Ebu said.
It seems that the actor himself does not expect such a resonance. He later published a statement in which he tried to explain his words and avoid further political discussion:
“I apologize if my words are not understood. Even though I criticize the Israeli government, I condemned any form of violence against the civilian population in any part of the world – it was against Israelis or against the Palestinians. I would never comment on this topic.”
Earlier it was reported that the Johannes Pitch, known under the JJ stage name, expressed a desire for the competition in 2026 to take place without Israel’s participation.
