This year, for the first time, the prize was awarded not to a specific person, but to the entire people of Ukraine for the “courageous struggle for freedom and against Russia’s aggressive war.”
During her official visit to the United States, the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska visited the Memorial to the Victims of Communism in Washington DC, where she received the Dissident Human Rights Award, addressed to all Ukrainian citizens. He spoke about it on Instagram.
The award was given to all Ukrainians who stood up to defend their country from the Russian war.
“A reward for every Ukrainian and every Ukrainian woman. This is your reward, dear compatriots!” Zelenskaya mentioned.
This award has been awarded by the Memorial since 2015 to activists and dissidents.
