Joan Plowright began her theater career in the 1950s, performing well in plays by William Shakespeare, Eugene Jonesco and George Bernard Shaw. In 1961, Broadway applauded her talent – the actress received a Tony Award for her role in the play A Taste of Honey.
Plowright got his start on the big screen in the 1960s, but he achieved worldwide fame in the 1980s. His roles in films like Stalin, Witching April, Jane Eyre, 101 Dalmatians and Tea from Mussolini have become true gems of cinema. For her role as Mrs. Fisher in the film Witching April, she received a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar nomination.
A special place in her life is occupied by her marriage to the outstanding British actor and director Laurence Olivier. The couple lived together for 28 years until Olivier’s death in 1989.
