Actor and businessman Keith Middlebrook received an 8-year sentence for selling fake coronavirus drugs.
American businessman and actor Keith Middlebrook, known for his role as a policeman in the movie Iron Man 2, was sentenced to eight years in prison for fraud with a fake medicine for COVID-19.
Middlebrook was found guilty of 11 counts of wire fraud, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The scandal began in March 2020 when the actor was arrested while meeting with an “investor” who was actually an undercover FBI agent. Middlebrook raised investments for the company Quantum Prevention CV Inc., which is said to be involved in the sale of drugs of his development. He said he created “patented” drugs to prevent and treat the coronavirus and even claimed the company was worth $10 billion.
In his statements, the businessman referred to the support of NBA legend Earvin Johnson, but the athlete denied any connection with the fictitious company.
The artist himself denied any accusation against him. He testified at trial that he worked with seven lawyers and eight doctors “initially for a product of this size.” Despite pleading guilty at trial, the district judge expressed concern that Middlebrook may continue to commit fraud in the future.
Earlier it was reported that theater and film actor Andrei Valensky, who was seriously injured in the front, became a victim of scammers.
