The author of the book that inspired the play and film revealed his ideas and confirmed that he wrote a scene in which the characters intentionally kiss
Last Monday, the 9th, the author’s interview was aired on the website Them, where Maguire told about his references when writing Wicked, “I wanted Oz to feel as real as Middle Earth”, he explained after talking about the inspirations in the children’s book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, first published in 1900.
Fans speculate that there is some sexual tension between Glinda and Elphaba during the film. In the book of Gregory Maguirethe characters actually kiss, but in the film starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo the scene was left aside. “This was intentional, and it was modest, restrained, and refined in a way that one would imagine one of these two young women felt something more than the other and didn’t want to say,” the author added.
