A rapper accused of raping a minor in 2000 is pushing for the plaintiff’s identity to be revealed or the case to be dropped.
Rapper Jay-Z, accused by a woman under the anonymous name of Jane Doe of raping a 13-year-old boy, has gone to court demanding that he settle it or drop the case, reports Sky news.
The case also involves controversial rapper R. Diddy, who has previously filed similar demands with the plaintiffs.
In a court filing, Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, said the plaintiff’s use of an anonymous name undermines the case’s ability to properly proceed. He emphasized that this only puts pressure on the rapper and spreads negativity in the public space.
“It is inconsistent with justice, equity and the rules governing federal proceedings for the plaintiff and his attorney to defame the defendant… The maximum public relations damage is done while the primary truth of the plaintiff’s identity… completely hidden from prying eyes,” the lawyer emphasized.
Jane Doe’s lawsuit alleges that Jay-Z, along with R. Diddy, allegedly raped her after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Both actors deny the accusations.
Jay-Z and his attorney believe the lawsuit is an attempt at extortion and demand that either the plaintiff’s identity be revealed or the case be dismissed. At the same time, Jane Doe’s advocates insist that anonymity be maintained, as it is standard practice in sexual assault cases.
It was previously reported that rapper Sean Combs, better known as P Diddy, is at the center of a new scandal.
