Marius Borg Hoiby, son of Crown Princess Matte-Marit, was released after a week of arrest. The investigation into the rape case is ongoing.
The son of Norway’s Crown Princess Matte-Marit, 27-year-old Marius Borg Høiby, has been released from custody after a week behind bars. The information was confirmed by his lawyer in a comment to Norway’s public broadcaster, AP reports.
Hoiby was arrested on November 18, and the next day he was formally charged with raping a woman who, according to prosecutors, was unconscious or otherwise incapacitated. The incident that led to the investigation occurred on November 6th. The victim is 20 years old.
Høiby was detained in a car near the official residence of the Prince of Norway. Law enforcement officers recovered evidence at the scene.
On November 27, the police decided to release Hoiby, saying they no longer saw the risk of tampering with evidence. At the same time, the investigation continues, and law enforcement officials have opened another case related to sexual crimes, the details of which have not yet been disclosed.
This situation caused a great public outcry in Norway, where the royal family is always under close public scrutiny.
It was previously reported that a high-profile robbery took place at the residence of Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Matte-Marit.
