Donald Trump’s wife will not attend the traditional tea party with Jill Biden on November 13.
Melania Trump decided to break an important tradition by refusing a tea party organized by the First Lady of the United States.
Traditionally, the spouses of newly elected and retiring presidents hold a symbolic meeting in the Oval Office, but Melania Trump decided not to take part in it.
According to the Daily Mail, although her husband Donald Trump accepted Joe Biden’s invitation to a meeting at the White House, Melania ignored the traditional tea party. Sources close to government officials said the first ladies have not spoken since Kamala Harris lost the presidential election, with their last meeting being at Rosalynn Carter’s funeral in 2023.
“Mrs. Trump has no plans to travel and they are still not talking,” the source said. The Bidens have promised that the transition of power will be peaceful, and they also plan to attend Trump’s inauguration in 2025.
This isn’t the first time Donald Trump has broken with tradition. Four years ago, during the victory of Joe Biden, Trump did not invite him to a meeting in the Oval Office, continuing a break with custom that caused widespread discussion in the media.
Melania Trump has previously been reported to have spoken about her first meeting with Donald Trump, which took place at Fashion Week in 1998.
