A piece of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s wedding cake, hidden in a suitcase hidden under the bed, has sold at auction for four times its original price.
At the Reeman Dansie auction they sold a piece of cake from the wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, which was baked for their wedding day on November 20, 1947, the BBC reports.
After the cake was found in a suitcase under the bed of a former royal palace maid, the item unexpectedly became popular and went under the hammer for $2,800.
The cake, hidden in a gift box, along with a letter from Princess Elizabeth, was bought by a buyer from China. The four-tier wedding cake, which weighs more than 200 kg and reaches 2.7 m in height, has become a real pleasure to cook, and to this day a piece of it is a rare rarity.
It was previously reported that a £10 note featuring King Charles III, issued by the Bank of England, sold for £17,000 at auction.
