During the scariest time of the year, it’s normal for us to use different products that can cause allergies; see how to protect your skin
The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) recently issued a safety statement highlighting the importance of monitoring and reporting adverse reactions resulting from the use of cosmetics.
Anvisa, which oversees the regulation of health-related products and services in Brazil, emphasizes that although cosmetics are widely used and generally safe, it is crucial to watch for any unexpected reactions.
The agency’s warning gains relevance especially during festive periods, such as Halloween, when the use of these products tends to increase, requiring special attention to prevent complications.
Julinha Lazaretti, biologist and co-founder of Alergoshop, a brand renowned for its hypoallergenic health and beauty products, highlights the risks associated with the intensive use of makeup during festivities such as Halloween.
The makeup used on this occasion tends to be denser and applied in greater volume, increasing the risk of allergic reactions, especially among individuals with sensitive skin or those who are not used to these products. Lazaretti recommends pre-testing any product before full application to reduce the chances of allergies.
Necessary Care
According to expert advice, during Halloween it is common to use more elaborate and heavy makeup. However, it is essential to pay attention to the ingredients.
Products containing fragrances, strong preservatives, parabens and artificial colors should be avoided due to greater allergic potential in sensitive skin. Lazaretti suggests prioritizing hypoallergenic formulas, designed to be less aggressive to the skin.
Conducting patch tests is another essential precaution. Applying a small amount of the product to a discreet area of the skin and waiting 24 hours can prevent serious adverse reactions.
Furthermore, it is important to avoid cosmetics of dubious origin or inferior quality, which are often sold at low prices or without clear information about the ingredients. Non-certified products may contain harmful substances prohibited by Anvisa, increasing the risks for the consumer.

Symptom Management
If allergic symptoms occur, immediate action is crucial to avoid worsening. Signs such as redness, itching, swelling and irritation require immediate suspension of use of the product and washing the affected area with running water and neutral soap.
Cold compresses can help relieve symptoms such as inflammation and discomfort. If symptoms persist, consulting a dermatologist is essential. Drug treatments such as antihistamines or corticosteroids may be necessary under medical supervision.
