Identification of young people
Young people at the time took the opportunity to be inspired by these pop divas, to have the courage to come out and overcome the challenges they would encounter along the way, due to prejudice. There was identification by many elements, song lyrics, political positions, among other similarities that people felt when following them.
The study also highlighted the significant role of social media in the lives of young British LGBTQIA+ people. More than half of those interviewed (55%) stated that there is a strong presence of queer personalities on online platforms, contrasting with the lower visibility in other areas, such as public figures (23%), television (10%), cinema (7%) and sports (2%).
