The Friends star was found dead on October 28, 2023, in a jacuzzi at his home in the Los Angeles area.
Doctor Mark Chavez, accused of causing actor Matthew Perry’s ketamine overdose death, has pleaded guilty. NBC News reported it.
Under a deal with federal prosecutors, Chavez, 54, admitted conspiring to supply a dangerous drug to the Friends star. Ketamine, which is 50 times stronger than heroin, was obtained by a doctor using the wrong prescription.
Chavez could face up to 10 years in prison, although the deal could reduce his sentence. He is currently out on bail and awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for April 2, 2025. Other defendants in the case, including the actor’s neighbor Kenneth Iwamasa and friend Eric Fleming, have also pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
The head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Anne Milgram, said that each of the defendants played a fatal role in the tragic death of Matthew Perry.
It was previously reported that the US Attorney’s Office had charged five people, including the actor’s assistant Matthew Perry and two doctors, in connection with the actor’s 2023 death.
