Melania Trump received R$1.2 million for speech to LGBT+ Republicans

Event raised funds for Log Cabin Republicans, while Melania played a low-key role in Trump’s campaign

Recent financial documents reveal that Melania Trump received nearly $250,000 for a speech at an event organized by Log Cabin Republicans, a group that represents LGBTQIA+ conservatives, in April this year at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The information is contained in Federal Election Commission records on sources of income for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and his wife.

The payment highlights Melania’s limited role in the 2024 campaign, in contrast to previous election cycles. She has made few public appearances alongside Trump so far, with one coming in March of this year when the couple voted in the Florida primary. Another event related to the Log Cabin Republicans was held in July in New York, but the documents do not indicate any additional compensation to Melania for that appearance.

The April event drew attention because it was one of the rare times Melania has participated in Trump campaign activities this election cycle. CNN reported that, aside from those appearances, she did not play a prominent role at this year’s Republican National Convention, which is unusual for the spouse of a presidential candidate.

The Log Cabin Republicans, despite criticism for their continued support of Trump, managed to raise significant amounts of money at both events. In April, the organization estimated it would raise more than $1 million, while the July event in New York City brought in $1.4 million. These figures reinforce the group’s influence, even in the face of a political platform that is increasingly distant from traditional queer issues.
