Actor leaves gay romance project days before filming begins in Mexico
According to information from The Hollywood Reporter, Phoenix’s attitude caused irritation among the producers, who are now seriously considering the possibility of suing him. The film, which would be produced by Killer Films, owned by Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, was already in an advanced stage of preparation, with the set assembled and ready for filming.
Sources close to the actor indicate that Phoenix decided to leave the project due to insecurities related to preparing for his role, which would be set in the 1930s. However, the details that led to his insecurity were not disclosed by anyone involved in the production.
Phoenix’s departure came as a surprise, especially since he was the one who pitched the project to Haynes and the production company. Without the lead actor, those involved decided to cancel the film altogether.
Danny Ramirez, known for “Top Gun: Maverick,” was set to co-star alongside Phoenix. The film would follow the journey of two lovers who leave California for Mexico, with rumors that it would include scenes of great intimacy between the main characters.
With Phoenix’s withdrawal, the future of the project has become uncertain, and the possible legal consequences are still being analyzed by the producers – in addition to more waiting for the LGBT+ audience.
