“A left-wing project that does not bow its head to fascism and that recognizes the priority of defeating the extreme right”
“Rio de Janeiro City Councilwoman (PSol). Architect and master in urban planning, raised in Maré, activist for human rights and the right to the city, lesbian and feminist” Monica Benicio confirmed her candidacy for reelection to the Rio de Janeiro City Council. Monica carries on the legacy of her ex-wife, Marielle Franco, one of the greatest LGBT+ icons in Brazil.

“Many people have been asking me if I would run for reelection. The suspense is over. The answer is YES! I am ready to face this new challenge, collectively. I want to think, together with you, about the political project we want to build for our city from 2025 onwards”, highlights the icon of the queer community.
Monica recalls that her project is “a feminist left-wing project that fights tirelessly for the rights of women and the LGBTQIAPN+ population, in favor of culture, carnival, free public education and in defense of the SUS. That fights for an inclusive city for people with disabilities and safe for all children.”
She also says that this is “a left-wing project that has the courage to fight the militias and that does not surrender to neoliberalism. A left-wing project that does not bow its head to fascism and that recognizes the priority of defeating the extreme right and defending democracy.”
