British duo shine at Paris 2024, highlighting the importance of family support and emotional tributes
On Monday, July 29, the British duo Tom Daley, an openly gay man, and Noah Williams won the silver medal in the men’s 10-meter platform synchronized diving final at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The competition began at 11 am local time, and the duo impressed with a first dive that included a somersault and a half, achieving 53.40 points.
After the awards ceremony, Daley and Williams gave an emotional interview to the BBC. A visibly emotional Daley spoke about the importance of this moment, especially as he was competing in front of his sons, Phoenix and Robert, and his husband Dustin Lance Black.
“It’s so special… to be here in Paris, diving in front of my son who actually asked me to come back… it’s so special,” Daley said. He expressed happiness that his children were able to witness the moment, noting that six-year-old Robert could remember parts of the experience, especially the medal that includes an Eiffel Tower symbol.
The medal marks the fifth Olympic win for Daley, one of the UK’s most celebrated high jumpers. His career has been marked by triumphs and challenges, including the loss of his father in 2011, which made this achievement even more significant. Daley highlighted the importance of family support, especially from his children and husband, throughout his sporting journey.
